NRW2015 @ Ocean Basket

My Take: The South African restaurant chain makes its presence in Nairobi at the Ground floor of the Oval in the heart of Westlands. The decor is quite nice and intimate, good for date nights, or even a family dinner/lunch.  I liked the Prawns in curry starter, it was a much better experience than one I had several years back at Coco Lounge. It revived my hope in seafood, until the main course, arrived, the Seafood risotto was not baaad…but it wasn’t great either. I have now concluded that my taste buds are too local for seafood, so let me just leave these pictures here and walk away…

My Take: After walking out of a restaurant (not mentioning names) in the vicinity, coz of their BS policy, I found myself at Pride Inn, Westlands. Now this place I loved! A friend of mine had always insisted I visit and now I understand why. The service was excellent, I noticed the waiters were a bit older than most places I’ve been, but they were really friendly. The ambience is also pretty good! The food, oh my, the food! They’ve got Chinese, Indian and Continental cuisine. They are quite generous with the potions – which I find very important for a restaurant and it was simply delicious – unfortunately the pics I took don’t do the food justice, t’was kinda dark, should consider getting myself a DSLR. This is a place I’m going to frequent, if you haven’t been, I suggest you visit soon.

NRW2014 @ Taste of China

My Take: From the lobby of VIP Plaza, Westlands you’ll feel as if you are in China. The decor, even in the elevator as you go up to the restaurant is all Chinese – in a good way. The restaurant looks great especially the view of the CBD from the terrace, definitely a place you take someone you’re trying to impress! Despite the name, the menu did not feel very Chinese-y, but it does have a lot of variety. The service was on point, we were served by a different waiter every few minutes – not sure if this is a good thing or not, but they definitely don’t have a shortage of staff here. The food was excellent especially the chicken popcorn… I don’t know what was in the spring roll but it was really really good! The food experience was spectacular! Please note, before you visit make sure you’ve enquired about the opening hours – check link below.

Pizza @ Naked Pizza

2014-01-14 15.58.06

My Take: I had heard a lot of hullabaloo about Naked Pizza, but I had personally not been there. So one Tuesday afternoon, a friend and I decided to drop in and see what all the fuss was about. The place has got a modern feel to it – one of those places you want to hang out on those lazy afternoons with your laptop. Their menu was a bit confusing at first, I couldn’t decide on what to order, so I just asked for what guys order most – that’s the omnivore pizza. The pizza comes either with thin crust or thick… I had the thick. The crust was Ok, but what really makes pizza is the toppings, and that’s where I went wrong. The black olives and mushrooms gave the pizza a really funkie taste for me, even after removing them. Good thing is that they allow you to custom make your own pizza, so i’ll def do that the next time.
Note: The reason it’s called Naked is because all their ingredients are natural
